English Summary

As a centre of knowledge, the Brainport region around the city of Eindhoven is of high economic importance to the Netherlands. The region has the ambition to become one of the three major technology regions in Europe by 2014. The region supports this ambition by improving the regional mobility.

The region aims at improving mobility by sustaining car mobility and by developing a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network. BRT is a sustainable alternative for the car and BRT is fast, reliable, comfortable and has a high frequency.

The City Region Eindhoven (SRE) is investing in a BRT network consisting of dedicated bus infrastructure and high quality station facilities and vehicles. Over the last few years the corridor towards Eindhoven Airport and Veldhoven has been realized. This corridor is being used by the Phileas bus.

In the next years the other corridors of the BRT-network will be developed. HOV2 is the first BRT corridor to be developed. This corridor runs from the village of Nuenen via Eindhoven Central Station and the city centre towards the High Tech Campus technology centre.

The City Region has asked the market during a consultation (by European tender regulations) which vehicle technology should be used on this HOV2 corridor. After the consultation the SRE has decided a high quality bus vehicle is the best alternative for HOV2, at the moment and in the future.

At the moment, the HOV2 project is in its preliminary design stage. The HOV2 corridor is expected to be completed by 2015.
